Dancing into the Future: Web3, Metaverse & Beyond

As we celebrate 50 years of Hip Hop, we must also ask ourselves — what is in store for the next 50 years? As new technologies permeate culture, from #music, to #fashion and #dance, new forms of expression will emerge, and change the way artists create, collaborate, and monetize their work. The META Foundation curated an insightful and participatory virtual session in collaboration with The Hopenclass to wrap up their HEC Paris MBA HipHop50 academic week.

This interactive session moderated by Lyric Wills, featured Ed Young, Hip Hop legend and founder of HipHop.NFT, Gillian Bowen from Dear Dancer, a virtual dance company bringing web3 to the dancer community to move it beyond its current limitations, and Damien Daube from Next Dancer, a French leading motion capture startup and animation-based dance game. To peak into the future of dance and digital self-expression, guests discussed the influence of Hip Hop dance on the metaverse and how dancers are engaging with new technologies. As new technologies permeate culture, from music, to fashion and dance, new forms of expression will resonate, and change the way artists create, collaborate and monetize their work. The session was followed by an online dance class.

New technologies are transforming the way we learn, experience, and engage with dance, bringing us closer to cultures and communities from afar. By embracing these tools, we can create collaborative and immersive works that bridge the gap between us, fostering a greater understanding and appreciation for the various movements and stories that shape our world." said Markus Schreyer, president of META Foundation.
